Roots to Rhythm
Last year our favorite Toronto contemporary art exhibition was
Mask!
This year the Association of African Canadian Artists (AACA) did it again with
their exhibition of contemporary art called Roots to Rhythm. Held
in conjunction with Toronto's Caribana festival; the group were honored to display
their works at Toronto's Royal Ontario Museum.
Imagine, as an artist, being able to say your work was on display at one of the most
prestigious art institutions in the country, if not the world.
Kudos to the ROM and their director & CEO William Thorsell for their goal to engage the public and
reflect the heritage of the museum's visitors through its diverse galleries, exhibition and programming
such as welcoming Roots to Rhythm. Thorsell said, "“The Caribana Festival is one of the
largest and most spectacular annual celebrations held in the city and the ROM is delighted to
have been invited to present this year’s art installation,” said William Thorsell, Director and CEO of the ROM. “We look forward to welcoming visitors
from around the world to view contemporary works by African-Canadian artists.”
The exhibition ran from July 25th to August 4, 2008.
