Pablo Picasso, Alexander Calder, Man Ray and Max Ernst, besides being well known modern artists each delved
into jewelry design as a method of expression. Like their other masterpieces their gems were popular with collectors such
as Daphne and Peter Farago.

Longtime benefactors of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (MFA), the couple donated over 600 pieces of contemporary
jewelry to the MFA in 2006. Generously the collection will include 100 additional items as promised gifts. The MFA
has, naturally, organized an exhibit of a portion of this fascinating collection.

Sculptor Alexander Calder's jewelry designs were reflective of his mobiles
wire sculptures. These works would inspire future studio jewelers. Included in Jewelry by Artists is
the dramatic necklace designed to celebrate the 25th Wedding Anniversary of the artist's sister, Margaret
Calder Hayes, in 1941.
