It's a Scream!
Congratulations are in order for the Norwegian Police. They've recovered Edvard Munch's two paintings The Scream, and Madonna, which
were stolen two years ago in August 2004.
The thieves could be seen carrying the two paintings on the day of the robbery. There have been convictions in this case, earlier this year, yet the convictions
didn't lead to the recovery of the works. The police aren't giving out details on exactly how they recovered the works.
Unfortunately two years out of the care of the Munch Museum has led to some damage to the works, the museum is confident that they can be repaired.
It is believed that the two paintings remained in Norway. It certainly seems to have been a waste of time and effort to take the paintings in the first place. Three criminals are serving prison sentences and have been given
a large fine for their deeds. The Scream is one of the most recognizable artworks in the world. It couldn't have been sold in any legitimate market so what was the point? All these
thieves achieved was the knowledge that they are responsible for damage to two of Norway's national treasures. Perhaps the old adage is true crime really doesn't pay.
