Editor's Note

At two different locations but similar times Giorgione and Leonardo da Vinci individually discovered chiaroscuro. Cima da Congeliano was one of the earliest painters to include the landscape as a subject matter. These two pieces of information are included in May's article about Renaissance Venetian Painting.

Art develops over time. The new isn't always appreciated but, in our opinion, worth a look. Recently the 19th Images Festival concluded in Toronto and a review of some of the countless highlights is in this month's edition of IATWM.

The Image Festival explores some of the newer medium and performance art. The latter is an area into which International Art Treasures Web Magazine rarely delves though we made an exception for April, and attended many of the openings. Some of the exhibits continue into May, such as John Oswald at the Edward Day Gallery or beyond, such as Urban Deconstructions at the Goethe Institute which is scheduled to be on display into September.

As Picasso and many other 'new' artists discovered, being on the cutting edge is not always critically acclaimed during it's time. It should be! Even if it is not everyone's cup of tea it is certainly worth the exploration.
