His life was brief, he died shortly before his 35th birthday, and yet his output of 626 musical compositions was profound and lives on for generations. They are the most beloved and recognized classical musical melodies in our time.
Featuring 309 objects on loan from within Austria and beyond including many that make their debut in the composer's homeland. Among the numerous treasures are Mozart’s first composition, the minuet KV 1, letters to Wolfgang’s mother written by her husband and son composers both and several personal belongings. On display will be Mozart’s first commissioned work, the “Schuldigkeit des ersten Gebots” KV 35 from the private collection of Queen Elizabeth II, and the portrait of Constanze Mozart from the Hunterian Museum in Glasgow. During the Salzburg Festival the original hand written score of “La Nozze di Figaro” from the Staatsbibliothek Berlin, will be put on display as part of Viva! MOZART. All of these objects are meant to provide insight into the life of Amadeus, foremost his musical compositions along with his habits, passions, loves and preferences. The exhibit opens with Mozart’s biography set amidst the important historical world-wide events. It continues with "I Johannes Chrisostomus Amadeus Wolfgangus Sigismundus Mozart…” presenting the life and times of Mozart using Image Continue, which is an elaborate projection, to showcase the cityscapes where the composer lived or toured done in chronological order.
Mozart's family were friends to the court physician Sylvester Barisani. A portrait of the doctor is included painted by Johann Nepomuk della Croce. Using an silhouette film one portion of the exhibit examines Mozart's family life from childhood onwards. Leopold Mozart, Wolfgang's father, also a composer published a booklet on violin-playing. The relationships both loving and difficult are demonstrated by passages from Mozart-family letters. Mozart's love of festive balls and games is explored in further portions of Viva! MOZART. Learn about Mozart the person, his personal interests such as his passion for games, dance and costume. Viva! Mozart provides a visual, acoustic and virtual trip through the life of Amadeus. The exhibit host is Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, through the use of an audio guide and interactive scenes.
Salzburg is the birthplace of Mozart. At the time it was the capital and court seat of the principality of Salzburg. The city will be the host to many events including Viva! Mozart to celebrate the life of native son Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
