Rembrandt's rarely come onto the market in these modern times. That one will be available at TEFAF is undoubtedly one of the many highlights at this year's Maastricht art fair. The Apostle James the Major has not been in private hands for sixty years. Significantly it is available in 2006, which is the 400th anniversary of Rembrandt's birth.

The Apostle James the Major is unique in Rembrandt’s late work given the figure is nearly full-length and the profile looks right, which is an uncommon pose. St James was beheaded in AD 44 and his remains allegedly transported to Santiago de Compostela. His supposed tomb was discovered around the 9th Century at Compostela, which by the 11th Century had become a pilgrimage site next in importance to only Jerusalem and Rome.

TEFAF Maastricht is the world's finest art and antiques fair. Nothing else comes close and this year, if the Rembrandt weren't reason enough to attend, there will be an exquisite array of art, jewelry and masterpieces available to view and purchase.
