Art went hand in hand with Henri Cartier-Bresson one of the world's most famous photographers. His original foray into that scene was as a painter he began taking photographs in 1931. Within four years he had begun his life long love affair with his Leica 35-mm camera. The former painter photographed Matisse among others during his career. He began work as a photo journalist on location in such dangerous conflicts as the Spanish Civil War and the Second World War. In 1944 he photographed the liberation of Paris.
Cartier-Bresson along with Bill Vandivert, Robert Capa, George Rodger and David "Chim" Seymour founded Magnum Photos in 1947.
The French photographer was the first western journalist allowed to visit the former Soviet Union, in 1954. This retrospective of the photographer's work is at the Foam Photography Museum in beautiful Amsterdam.
