Canadian Action Party

Catherine Whelan Costen, Canadian Action Party President and Communications Director

Canadian Action Party has been promoting reinvesting in our Culture since its inception. It is one of the founding policies of our party. We recognize the arts as a major part of any country's identity. We certainly would support policy which is founded on our own ideals. We are the only party that can and will deliver financial support to effect these goals because we are the only party determined to use our Bank of Canada. The Bank of Canada is the mechanism to permit us to be financially independent.

Canadian Action Party recognizes the important role of the arts and culture sector in Canada's economy. We begin the recognition by supporting the arts in our schools, promoting Canadian history, giving proper acknowledgement to our massive accomplishments over the years. We raise the status of the arts by promoting it with sufficient funding, and encouraging our youth to pursue education in these fields. Writers, musicians, artists, the film industry, the Ballet etc. reflect the creativity of the nation. This is the atmosphere, which builds and supports peace in the world. Arts and culture are the tools that reach out to other people, other cultures and other nations in the spirit of community. Nobody ever started or went to war with a paint brush, flute, or pen. Many conflicts can be resolved with those same tools. We recognize the role and the contribution to our GNP, but we also recognize the more important contribution of the arts in investing in a culture of peace, which is priceless.

Canada has a vested interest in protecting our arts and culture from becoming absorbed by a global market. The people of a nation have a unique voice, expressing customs and culture that needs to be preserved for the next generation. Canadian content rules are being eroded under a misguided ideology of inclusiveness, which leads to the end of our independent voice. We will support the people behind the arts and assist them to create policy, which serves Canada's best interest as a sovereign nation first.

On Protection of Canadian artists' copyright: We would consult with artists' to create policy, which reflects their specific concerns. We understand and respect the artists' right to be compensated appropriately for their creations and ownership of their work.

This is our exact policy :

Arts, Culture and CBC – Canadian Action Party believes that culture is the soul of a nation and for that reason it would increase funding to the National Arts Council and the CBC Although not all Canadians see the significance of our CBC it provides much of the sinew of continuity that makes us Canadian. The Canadian Action Party believes that a vibrant CBC is a symbol of a vibrant Canada. We would like it to be a vehicle for our national voice reflecting all regions and views of Canada.
