Art and Politics

Whether political cartoons or paintings politics does have impact on art. In this edition of IATWM an exhibit entitled The Art of Engagement is explored that will soon open at the San Jose Museum of Art

Given the subject matter of some or perhaps all of the works there is a tendency to stay away from the provocative. While IATWM considers itself to be Family Friendly or G-Rated it encourages those who have the opportunity to vote to take the opportunity and use their democratic rights.

Politics, however, brings heated debates in many issues with both sides can have those fervent in their passionate belief that they are right and the opposing view completely wrong. Should art shy away from these issues?

IATWM's answer to that question is no. The artist who chooses to have politics as a subject matter should not be ignored in the pages of IATWM. We may agree with their views, we may not but we will not shy away from allowing our readers to know about an exhibit that explores politics in art.
