Danish Police Recover Stolen Rembrandt

The most valuable painting stolen from Sweden's National Museum of Fine Arts, Stockholm was recovered.

It is thanks to the Copenhagen Police who working on a tip set up a meeting to buy the stolen artwork. The sellers were in for a surprise when they learned the price they would be paid for the Rembrandt was arrest with a trial in the future rather than the money they had hoped to achieve through their criminal actions.

Rembrandt's Self-Portrait was the most valuable of the three works stolen that December night. Currently the National Museum has an exhibit exploring 17th Century Dutch artists Dutch Golden Age. The Rembrandt is now part of this exhibit reviewed here.

This Renoir was also taken during the December 22, 2000 robbery at the Nationalmuseum, Stockholm. It has been recovered in the United States but has not yet been returned to the Nationalmuseum.
