Visitors to the Addison Gallery have been granted a unique opportunity with the exciting
exhibit that will close in mid October. Many of the exhibition paintings have not been displayed in years.
One of the aims of Eye on the Collection is to
re-acquaint the public with the breadth of the Addison
Collection. Among the many highlights on display are John Singleton Copley’s portrait of Mary Elizabeth Martin and
Night by Georgia O’Keeffe. Included are over forty landscapes, cityscapes, still life and portraits
that span two hundred years of American Art.
In the words of the Addison Gallery Director and Exhibition Curator, Brian T. Allen
“We have some wonderful paintings in our permanent collection and all of us are thrilled
with the chance to highlight some of the very best,” adding,
“we want to keep these great things on view so people can come to the museum again and again and develop their own
relationships with some of the greatest paintings our country has produced.”
