Toulouse-Lautrec and Montmartre

Moulin Rouge and Parisian suburb Montmartre will forever be associated with French artist Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec.

There is an enchanting exhibition dedicated to the painter and poster creator extraordinaire, which is accompanied with an outstanding catalogue, delving into the artist and those whom he encountered during his brief life.

Born to an eccentric nobleman, Lautrec was the life of the party, though his hard living never interfered with his tensile work ethic.

The exhibition catalogue naturally probes into the works from which it is formed. It provides an opportunity to learn about the subjects that passed through Toulouse-Lautrec's life and oeuvre.

As a boy he had a love of horses, but suffered severe injuries from a number of falls that sadly atrophied his bones, which meant he had the body of an adult but the legs of a child. Toulouse-Lautrec traveled in the seedy suburbs that would be synonymous with him and his art.

He found inspiration in the nightclubs, brothels and cafes which he frequented. He was successful, and able to earn a living as an artist, but his extravagances kept him short of funds. He was known to party for hours, and yet, would always turn up early at his workshop never shirking his responsibilities.

The essays of Toulouse-Lautrec and Montmartre explores the individuals and experiences he encountered that form the basis of the exhibit of the greatest poster artist the world has ever known.
