Cimabue in Pisa
Over 100 art works from paintings, sculptures, Goldsmith's Art and Ceramics are on display to take the visitor back to the 13th Century
in Pisa. This is the first time that all of the priceless icons usually found in Pisan churches have been gathered into one location supplemented with loans.
Items as the Dossal of Giunta of Vatican Museums with San Francis and his story
along with Giotto's double face Polyptych from Florence are included beside the
Pisan antiquities.

Located in the Campo dei Miracoli (Field of Dreams) is the
Leaning Tower of Pisa. The Tower was built in 1173 perhaps some would say
the location, on top of sandy silt subsoil, was a mistake. Then again the
tower certainly put Pisa on the art lover's map located in a city, province
and country that is inundated with popular locales.
The tower had begun its tilt by the time the third level was added in
1274. It was completed in 1350. |

Many have climbed to the top including Galileo, a Pisan, who used the
tower in his experiments concerning the velocity of falling objects.
The tower was built to complement the Duomo and Baptistery. The Giovanni
Pisano carved pulpit is a highlight of the Duomo as is Cimabue's Christ in
Majesty mosaic.
The Museo dell'Opera del Duomo is where one will finds items that were
originally located in the Duomo, Tower and Baptistery. Additionally the Museum has a
lovely collection of Nicola Pisano works and that of his son Giovanni.
