Claude Monet is a given inclusion in any exhibit dedicated
to Impressionist Art.
It was one of his paintings that gave the new
movement its name.
Monet loved to paint en plein air and encouraged others to join him
outdoors and paint the impression of the fleeting moment in time. |
Montmartre Paris was home to many artists notably Henri
Toulouse-Lautrec. The Parisian nightlife attracted him and many of his
works reflect this such as his studies of the Moulin Rouge.
He greatly admired Degas. |

Dancers and Degas! Whether in painting or sculpture Degas
oft depicted one subject the graceful female form.
Manet befriended Degas and brought him into the Impressionist circle of
friends, rivals and artists. |
Post-Impressionist Cézanne was a strong influence on Amedeo
Modigliani. While not an Impressionist he was a strong part of the Paris
night scene during his brief life. |

Manet heavily influenced the work of Berthe Morisot. She was Fragonard's granddaughter and she married Manet's brother.
Morisot studied with Corot. It is believed that she was the one who encourage Manet to use the palette associated with Impressionists and
to paint in Monet's preferred en plein air format.
