Ferdinand Hodler and Geneva
Musée Rath
March 22 - August 21, 2005

The Musée has an extensive collection of Ferdinand Hodler artworks, portions of which form a new exhibit for Spring 2005 at the Musée Rath.

The Rath Museum is dedicated to Fine arts. It displays temporary exhibitions organized by the Musée d'art et d'Histoire such as Ferdinand Hodler and Geneva.

Hodler was born in Bern. It was Geneva that he called home.

The artist first dabbled in landscapes but that wasn't where he found his success.

He is believed to have influenced Impressionism, but his style was Symbolism and Art Nouveau, using flat stylized figures as in L'Adoration.

One way to cool down on a hot summer day is to visit Jet D'eau, the world's tallest fountain.

Seven tons of water shoots into the air. What goes up must come down and visitors are showered with the cooling spray.

The predominately Gothic, St. Peter's Cathedral, was the location of many of John Calvin's sermons during 1536 and 1564. His seat has been preserved and is found in the north aisle.

Geneva has long been a haven for philosophers and is the birthplace of Rousseau.

Temporary residents included John Calvin, Guilliaume Farel and Voltaire.

Geneva is situated on Lake Geneva and is a suitable base for Alps excursions. Fine dining, excellent museums, and an engaging history all add to the allure of this beautiful city in Switzerland.
