Toronto celebrates her culture and creativity in the Second Annual WinterCity Festival.

Many of the events are free!

Nathan Phillips Square, in the downtown core, will be the location of open air performance from Canadian and International theatrical troops who will thrill the audience in performances called WOW for Wild on Winter!

My City, My Life, is a photographic exhibition where 24 extraordinary Canadians were asked to produce 24 images during a 24 hour period. The results will be displayed in the rotunda of Toronto City Hall.

The popular Warm Up series is back. Comedy, dance, opera, theatre and much more will be available indoors! Various venues will host a variety of events.

The mouthwatering aromas of gourmet cuisine will fill the shopping mall as chefs demonstrate their talents. Bob Blumer, Donna Dooher, and Rob Rainford are each scheduled to teach some of their culinary creativity to the audiences.
Wheel in Motion February 1 - 6
Wheel in Motion combines gymnastics within a revolving wheel requiring both skill and balance.

A behind the scenes introduction to opera, including interactive activities, will be available for children aged 8 through 17 and their parents on Saturday. The following day participants will attend a matinee performance of La Bohème 2 pm at the Hummingbird Centre.

La Bohème and a bite combines opera, fine dining and conversation with the Canadian Opera Company's inclusion in WinterCity. La Bohème is a celebration of friendship and love among Bohemian artists living in Paris. On Sunday February 6 opera lovers may attend the matinee 2pm performance of Puccini's classic opera. They will thenn dine at Bouchon Restaurant and Wine Bar at 6 pm, which will include a post-show talk.

Scavenger hunts, a traditional Inuit bone and pin game, creating a special ROM take home craft are some of the activities involved in the family fun weekend at the Royal Ontario Museum. A screening of  the 20th Century Fox film Ice Age, will be held both days at 2 pm.

WinterCity Icy Blast: January 30 1- 5 pm & February 6 1-5 pm

Family fun at the AGO as children of all ages are given the chance to recreate one of the coldest northern paintings, Lake and Mountains, by Lawren Harris. Together each family will make snow globes to take home at the two special WinterCity Family Sunday events at the AGO.

The Art Gallery of Ontario is undergoing an expansion project and yet continuing to bring innovative and exciting exhibits during the construction of the Frank Gehry designed alterations. These programs are featured here.

Winter Family Day January 30

Inuit Culture is explored through Nuvisavik Exhibition: The Place Where We Weave. Pangnirtung weavers interpreted the creativity of local artists, taking their sketches and drawings and weaving them. Visitors will join in Inuit storytelling and have the chance to create their own woven art.

National Ballet of Canada

Dance Studio Tours February 3

Tours of the Walter Carsen Centre, home to the National Ballet of Canada, the Shoe Room and the Wardrobe area along with the opportunity to watch a dance rehearsal are available. The tours take place hourly from 10 am to 4 pm.

Master Classes February 5

Enthusiasts have the choice to either participate or watch a ballet Class conducted by Ryan Boorne, one of the National Ballet of Canada's Principal Dancers

Both events organized at the National Ballet of Canada require pre-registration.

Children's Art Festival

DiscoverAbility January 31 - February 4

The 5th annual DiscoverAbility exhibit will be displayed at Metro Hall and the Canadian Broadcasting Centre. Over 800 objects, including painting, sculpture, stained glass and murals will be available for sale at a Gala Auction in support of charity.
