Degas, Monet, Renoir, Sisley and Pissaro were all involved in the first
Impressionist exhibition held at the Parisian salon. Among the
Frenchmen was Italian artist Giuseppe de Nittis.Impressionism is simply the
rendering of a moment in time using memory to capture what has
fleetingly past.
De Nittis was born to wealth in Barletta, Italy. Though he lived less than
forty years his influence was profound. This was a direct result of his artistic flair.
The first Impressionist Exhibit was held in 1874 while De Nittis was all of 28.
Is De Nitti an impressionist? That is a key thesis of the exhibit.

The exhibit uses several themes to provoke thought to explore De Nittis
as not only an Impressionist, but as an Italian Impressionist.
Nature revealed is a key theme, which includes the 1864 Appointment in
the Woods of Portici. De Nittis experiments with color are reflected
in another theme. His journeys are incorporated in Italy, Paris and
London divisions. That is just a hint of the oeuvre found in the
Giuseppe de Nittis retrospective.
