Gerard ter Borch the Younger was a member of an artistic family. He was
named for his father and yet it is the son whose talent brought fame to the
ter Borch name. The father certainly taught the son who excelled in the
family craft.
The Younger was a painter and interior draftsman. He traveled extensively
throughout his life.

Gerard ter Borch will forever be associated with the creation of his country
as he was invited to accompany the Dutch delegation to Münster
in 1648. Before the age of photography artists would record significant
moments such as the Signing of the Treaty of Münster
in 1648. The treaty not only ended the Eighty Year's War between Spain and Holland
it also provided independence to the Dutch from the Spaniards. The National
Gallery of London has loaned The Swearing of the Oath of Ratification of
the Treaty of Münster, 15 May 1648 for the
Gerard ter Borch exhibition.
