American sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens
looked to classical sculpture to define his talent. He created Civil
War Monuments to Shaw and to Sherman. Saint-Gaudens is the subject of
an exhibition currently on display in Athens. Included are small
bronze studies, plaster studies and relief painting.
As a painter he was a forerunner of the modernist era, with his
penchant for direct expression which was rarely found in late 19th
Century American artists. |

Bergstrom which included bequeathing his mansion to Neenah. The Museum is also
a community arts center with classes, lectures and special events.
The Other Side of the West brings together 10
contemporary artists with a variety of styles and subject matter meant to
"massage, twist, tweak and shatter" the traditional art of the west.
The artists are John Axton, Nelson Boren, JD Challenger, Anne Coe,
David DeVary, J.E. Knauf, Bill Schenck, Maria Sharylen, Miquel Martinez,
and Ben Wright.

Eloquent Hands: The Meaning of Gesture in Painting
until November 1, 2004
Residenzgalerie Salzburg
People speak with their hands to illustrate their point, and this was
captured by noted artists such as Caravaggio, Anton
Maulbertsch, Bernardo Strozzi and Guercino, to name a few.
Adding movement moved the artwork to provide
conservation to the art fan allowing their own interpretation of the
artist's subject matter. This exhibit focuses on the use of hands
via contemporary paintings, photographs and videos.
