John Nunziata's Arts Policy
John Nunziata recognizes
the tremendous importance of the arts sector to both the cultural and
economic health of Toronto.
The film and television industries have become two of the most important
arts-related industries to Toronto, employing thousands of people and
generating millions of dollars in direct and related economic activity.
As Mayor, John Nunziata would appoint a "Hollywood North" commissioner,
who would work directly in the Mayor's Office, to oversee all aspects
of the city's dealings with the film and television industries, and to
make sure that Toronto is doing everything possible to ensure their continued
growth and success here.
Theatre, visual arts, live music, dance and cultural arts festivals all
play a key part in making Toronto one of the great cities of the world
for tourists, and John Nunziata would make it a priority to co-ordinate
all the various tourism marketing that is done by various agencies and
levels of government to ensure that we get the biggest bang for our tourism
marketing bucks - and he would ensure that arts tourism marketing is part
of that effort.
John Nunziata would also designate Toronto the "City of Festivals," and
would establish another key official role - reporting directly to the
Mayor - to co-ordinate all of the various cultural and artistic festivals
that Toronto stages each year.
